Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will be recruited as part of a project funded by the IERDJ on the public questioning of judges and debates around freedom of expression. They will be responsible for carrying out a media analysis of public criticism of judges and for a database on litigation before the 17th chamber. They will assist with the final processing of the data and the writing of the report.
Activity
The research engineer will be responsible for building a database drawing on sources such as Europresse, INA, and YouTube, and for compiling a ten-year press and media corpus on criticism of the judicial institution. They will also map the media outlets and actors voicing criticism of the rule of law and the judiciary, and build a database based on litigation before the 17th chamber.
Your Profil
Skills
Good knowledge of the epistemological debates around controversy mapping. Good knowledge of the literature on hate speech and critique of the rule of law required.
Proficiency in Python and R (FactoShiny package, parse function, etc.); proficiency in scraping methods, network analysis, and correspondence factor analysis.
Your Work Environment
The CMH is a joint research unit (Unité Mixte de Recherche, UMR) under the supervision of four institutions: the CNRS, the EHESS, the ENS, and INRAE. It is a general-purpose research center focused on the recomposition of social relations, drawing on interdisciplinarity (its members are mainly sociologists and political scientists, but also historians and anthropologists) and methodological openness, ranging from longitudinal analyses of large-scale databases to ethnographic fieldwork.
