Job Description

Missions

A postdoctoral research contract of 5 months is open through the research project ERANKUTI, to work on the development of pastoralism in Michoacan during the 16th century. This contract aims at deepening our understanding of the use of European and local plants in the breeding practices of introduced herbivores.

Activity

The candidate who will be selected will:
- develop an archaeobotanical approach to identify starch grains from different substrates
- discuss with the member of the ERANKUTI project who specialise in modern and historical husbandry practices, to corroborate the archaeological results
- analyse, present and valorise the results obtained during team meeting and beyond

Your Profil

Skills

We are looking for a motivated and autonomous candidate, with a proven practise of starch grain study in the Americas and in Europe, to posses the necessary skills and references for the identification of local and introduced plants. The candidates will have been awarded a PhD in archaeobotany or equivalent.

Your Work Environment

The recruited postdoc will work within the Archéologie des Amériques research unit, in Paris, where they will have access to a working space shared with the other postdocs. They will be placed under the hierarchical responsibility of Aurélie Manin and part of the ERANKUTI team, composed of about 10 people in France and in Mexico.

Constraints and risks

This position does not present specific risks. When starting, the postdoc will be accompanied by the agent responsible for Health and Safety in the UMR ArchAm to identify the risks that may arise during the exercise of their functions.
