Missions
Microbial mats are complex ecosystems characterized by strong redox gradients. Within these highly diverse communities, metabolic symbioses or syntrophies to exploit specific ecological niches are common. This is the case of symbiotic consortia of Asgard archaea with other prokaryotic partners. This project aims to analyze genomes belonging to poorly studied lineages assembled from metagenomes of microbial mats and other redox transition environments in order to predict their functional potential and understand their ecological and evolutionary role.
Activities
- Bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequence data
- Assembly of metagenomes and MAGs (metagenome-assembled genomes)
- Gene annotation and metabolic inference
- Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analysis
Skills
The candidate (M/F) should have a broad knowledge of microbial diversity, metabolism and ecology as well as solid expertise in in-depth metagenomic analysis, comparative genomics and molecular phylogeny. Additional requirements: English proficiency (written and spoken); good presentation and communication skills; autonomy and organization; synthetic mind and critical thinking.
Work Context
This position is funded by the ERC AdG SYMBEK. The postdoc will work at the DEEM team - Diversity Ecology and Evolution of Microbes (http://www.deemteam.fr/en/). Our laboratory is located in the new Saclay Campus of the University Paris-Saclay, ~30 km south of Paris. A suburban train connects the Campus to the city.
Constraints and risks
The postdoc activity implies bioinformatic work and does not has any particular risk. The work will be done under normative security rules.
