Job Description
Missions
In this postdoc, spatial regulations will be developed and analyzed for dense wireless networks. We will survey techniques for deterministic and stochastic guarantees provided by network calculus and develop those suitable to achieve specific quality of service (QoS) guarantees in wireless networks such as link reliability based on spatial network calculus and its extensions.
Activity
Context :
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises fundamental changes that benefit industries and individuals. Among others, a key enabler to these changes is the ability for IoT networks to provide performance guarantees for link reliability and delay. In this direction, one of the main challenges is to extend the services provided by time-sensitive networking (for wired networks) to wireless communication networks such as 5G and future-generation cellular networks. To address this challenge, a spatial network calculus has recently been proposed to ensure lower-bounded performance in the wireless setting. The spatial regulations in spatial network calculus can be viewed as a necessary extension of traffic shaping in classical network calculus, hence extending guaranteed services from wired to wireless systems.
The guarantees provided by spatial network calculus need to take into consideration the deployment density of IoT devices, power control, random access, and spatial regulation techniques. Its analysis relies on tools from stochastic geometry (theory of point processes in particular), network calculus (both deterministic and stochastic), and analysis of rare events.
Research program :
1. Conduct a survey about state-of-the art methods for TSN, network calculus and stochastic geometry
2. Develop new methods and techniques towards spatial regulations
3. Analyze system-level performance guarantees for wireless networks that takes into consideration device density, power control, random access and spatial regulation techniques.

Your Work Environment
This position is a 1-year Postdoc contract in the context of PEPR 5G réseaux du futur, FITNESS investigating performance guarantees in wireless networks in support of IoT applications. This postdoc is thus part of a larger scientific project including internal and external collaborations from which the candidate will be able to benefit. The postdoc project will be carried out in the ICI (Information, Communication, Imagerie) team of ETIS (UMR8051). The successful candidate will be affiliated to ETIS lab.
ETIS is a joint lab between CY Cergy Paris Université, ENSEA and CNRS, and prominent research unit in computer science and information technologies in France. ICI is one of ETIS' four multi-PI groups and is specialized in signal processing, information theory and wireless communications. The group's research areas include optimization of resource allocation for wireless communication systems, massive MIMO, NOMA systems, physical layer security, etc. ICI has built a world-class reputation and has become a major actor in these research areas in France with multiple national and international collaborations.
