Missions
The recruited candidate will actively contribute to the development of high-speed optoelectronic devices within the framework of the prematuration project (Hi-QFACTOR).
He/she will be in charge of the design, fabrication, and integration of mid-infrared photonic components, aiming to deliver a first functional prototype to support technology transfer.
Activities
• Carry out cleanroom fabrication of devices (mid-infrared photodetectors and modulators).
• Contribute to design improvements (optical and electrical design) to optimize high-frequency performance (up to 10 GHz).
• Package an electronic amplifier on top of the detector in order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and overall performance of the system.
• Perform optical and electrical characterizations (responsivity, modulation depth, bandwidth, noise).
• Develop a first simple packaging solution with integrated RF circuit to obtain a functional prototype suitable for technology transfer.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, and contribute to technical reports and scientific publications.
Skills
• Education: PhD, Master 2, or Engineering degree in physics, optoelectronics, photonics, or micro/nano-fabrication.
• Solid knowledge of semiconductor physics and optoelectronic device design.
• Experience with high-frequency characterization (RF, optical) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of electronic (amplifiers, RF circuits) is a plus.
• Ability to work across design, fabrication, and system integration.
• Autonomy, rigor, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Good communication skills in English (French is an asset but not mandatory).
Work Context
The position is based at the Laboratoire de Physique de l'ENS (LPENS), within the QUAD group.
The Hi-QFACTOR project aims to develop a new generation of high-speed, room-temperature MIR optoelectronic devices, with potential applications in free-space telecommunications, gas sensing, and biomedical diagnostics.
The candidate will work in a rich and collaborative research environment with a strong focus on technology valorization and industrial transfer.
