Missions

The work of the candidate is performed in the context of the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. He or she will work on measurements of the Higgs boson and its background coming from other processes in the standard model of particle physics. The data collected during Run 2 and Run 3 of the LHC will be used for this analysis. The measurements that are made will be interpreted in the context of an effective field theory (EFT). The successful candidate will work alongside other members of the team, and will take charge of the analysis. Alongside this analysis work, the successful candidate will work on technical aspects of the CMS experiment, such as the upgrade of the calorimeter (HGCAL) for the high-luminosity LHC era, or the reconstruction of particles in the detector.

Activités

- Analysis of data collected by the CMS experiment
- Support in the development of HGCAL
- Presenting results and writing scientific reports

Compétences

- PhD in particle physics
- Ability to work in a team
- Good knowledge of the English language
- Python, ROOT and C++ skills

Contexte de travail

The work will be performed as part of the activities of the CMS group at the Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR), made up of approximately 30 members working on Higgs boson physics, standard model physics, and beyond-the-standard model physics. Members of the group are involved in the operation of the CMS detector as well as in projects related to the upgrade of the detector in view of the high-luminosity LHC era.

Although the usual workplace will be Palaiseau, regular travel to CERN, Geneva, is foreseen.
