Missions
We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the evolutionary origins of complex human genetic diseases, within the framework of a project funded by the Foundation for Medical Research until January 31st 2029. The successful candidate will utilize ancient genomes and the results of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to characterize the evolutionary history of genetic variants associated with complex diseases.
Activités
• Evaluate, apply, and adapt methods for reconstructing genealogies and ancestral recombination graphs to study of the genetic basis of diseases, incorporating ancient genomes
• Apply and develop methods for partitioning heritability and estimating genetic correlations
• Develop analytical models and simulations to characterize the selective regimes, including polygenic selection, acting on genetic variants associated with complex diseases
• Actively contribute to the writing an publication of scientific articles
• Disseminate the results at national and international conferences
Compétences
• PhD in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, evolutionary genetics, or a related field (obtained or in progress)
• Strong knowledge of statistical genetics and/or evolutionary genetics
• Proven experience in bioinformatics and large-scale genomic data processing
• Excellent level of scientific English, both spoken and written
• Experience with the scientific publication process; the candidate must have published, or be about to publish, at least one research article as first author.
• Scientific autonomy, critical thinking, and strong communication skills
Contexte de travail
The position is based at the Jacques Monod Institute (IJM), located in the heart of Paris, in a dynamic, international research environment with computing infrastructure adapted for large-scale genomic analyses. The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Dr. Stéphane Peyrégne, head of the paleogenomics team at the IJM. This recently created team studies ancient genomes to better understand human evolution and its implications for biology and health.
