The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the SWAP theme (Subwavelength Physics) at the Langevin Institute devoted to the study of wave phenomena occurring at a subwavelength scale. More specifically, the postdoctoral researcher will join the team of Fabrice Lemoult (fabrice.lemoult@espci.psl.eu) who is interested in electromagnetic and acoustic metamaterials or metasurfaces. The requested work will be part of the project DGA RAPID m3SFA. The project focuses on compact, intelligent and electronically reconfigurable antennas with preserved circular polarization for SATCOM on the MOVE based on semi-open chaotic electromagnetic cavities made reconfigurable using GREENERWAVE technology . The post-doctoral fellow will have to interact regularly with the start-up GREENERWAVE (http://greenerwave.com/).


The m3SFA project rely on the developpment of antennas which are able to follow the link with satellites on the move. Greenerwave developps reconfigurable metasurfaces which permit to obtain directivities and side lobe levels which fullfil the standards. The work at Institut Langevin will focus on the algorithms which would allow the real time optimization of the metasurface in order to keep the link the satellite on the move. Topology optimization, ie. adjoint based algorithms, is a promizing candidate for such purpose and will be investigated. Most of the work will consist in studying such optimization in the laboratory within a reverberating cavities with reconfigurable walls.


The candidate must have a PhD degree and experience in the fields of wave propagation in complex media such as chaotic cavities or metamaterials Knowledge in the fields of electromagnetic modelling of open cavities and optimization problems will be highly appreciated. On the other hand, a certain experimental know-how is required in order to successfully test algorithms and characterize them in reverberation chambers. A relative autonomy will be greatly appreciated.

Work Context

The Langevin Institute is a Joint Research Unit (UMR 7587) of ESPCI Paris and CNRS dedicated to wave physics and its applications. Researchers at the Institute aim to understand the mechanisms of the propagation of different types of waves (mechanical and electromagnetic) in complex environments and to take advantage of this better understanding to design original instruments for the manipulation of these waves. In 2011, the Langevin Institute obtained the label LabEx (laboratory of excellence) for its project WIFI (Waves and Imaging: from Fundamentals to Innovation).
