Missions

As part of the ACME European project, the Centre de Physique des Particules (CPPM) is offering a postdoctoral position in multi-messenger astrophysics related to the KM3NeT, SVOM, and COLIBRI detectors. The main objective is to complete the development and optimization of the KM3NeT neutrino alert system, and to coordinate the follow-up of these alerts with major multi-wavelength observatories (SVOM, Nustar/XMM, COLIBRI…). In particular, the postdoctoral re-searcher will focus on studying correlations between active galactic nuclei, especially blazars, and neutrinos detected by KM3NeT.
In this context, he or she will play a key role in the KM3NeT real-time data analysis group, as well as in the scientific analysis working groups of SVOM and COLIBRI.
CPPM, as the host laboratory of the KM3NeT France site, is responsible for the construction, opera-tion, and maintenance of the detector, and has extensive experience in data analysis. Approximately 25–30% of the KM3NeT detection lines are currently operational, along with the real-time analysis platform

Activités

• Real-time search for cosmic neutrino sources using the KM3NeT detectors
• Data analysis from SVOM instruments as well as images from the COLIBRI telescope
• Participation in KM3NeT shifts and service tasks (calibration, construction, processing), as well as SVOM and COLIBRI shifts
• Activities of outreach and dissemination
• Student supervision.

Compétences

• Ph.D. in Experimental high-energy Physics
• Excellent analysis and software skills (python and astropy)
• teamwork abilities
• fluent in English
• Experience in data analysis in a neutrino experiment and in astronomy analysis in X-ray/gamma-ray observatories and/or in optical telescope is appreciated but not mandatory

Contexte de travail

The successful candidate will be based at CPPM, Marseille, France (http://cppm.in2p3.fr). The CPPM Neutrino group, which has a long-standing experience in neutrino detection in the deep sea with the ANTARES and KM3NeT experiment, is currently responsible for the construction and the operation of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector. The successful candidate will participate to the research activities of the group. Travel to other laboratories of the KM3NeT Collaboration for Collaboration meetings, participation to shifts and eventually to ORCA sea operations are foreseen.

The Neutrino Astronomy team at CPPM, involved in the KM3NeT, SVOM, and COLIBRI experiments, is composed of 2 permanent researchers, 2 postdoctoral researchers, 2 PhD students, as well as two engineers and technicians.
