Missions
The Institut des Sciences Moléculaires de Marseille (iSm2) is recruiting a Research Engineer on a fixed-term contract to join the STEREO team, under the responsibility of Prof. Thierry Constantieux and Dr. Muriel Amatore, in order to develop an ANR-funded project in the field of atroposelective organocatalysis.
Working with two PhD students involved in this project, the activities of the person recruited will involve defining and optimising synthetic protocols, characterising products, writing reports and making oral presentations at group seminars and scientific events.
Activities
- Carry out and implement organic syntheses.
Monitor the progress of reactions and characterise the products formed.
Choose appropriate synthesis techniques and protocols, develop procedures and operating modes, in a context of sustainable chemistry.
Write up operating procedures and reports on synthesis results.
Monitor scientific and technical developments.
Transfer knowledge and skills to PhD students.
Manage requirements for basic products and materials, solvents and waste.
Skills
Knowledge
• In-depth knowledge of organic chemistry.
• General knowledge of synthesis and methods for separating and purifying organic compounds.
• General knowledge of techniques for analysing and characterising chemical species.
• Knowledge of health and safety risks and regulations.
• Knowledge of conditions of use, storage and disposal of chemical products.
• Good level of scientific English (read, spoken and written).

Work Context
• The iSm2 laboratory is a joint research unit (UMR) under the joint supervision of the CNRS and Aix-Marseille University. It develops research in the field of molecular chemistry with strong interaction with biology. It has 75 permanent members divided into 4 teams, as well as an average of as many non-permanent researchers (PhD students, post-docs) and trainees. The laboratory is located on the Campus Nord, or Campus de Saint Jérôme, of the University of Aix-Marseille.
