Missions

We are seeking a Biochemistry/Structural Biology Scientist for a postdoctoral position with the goal of creating novel chemical probes targeting pseudokinases involved in tumor cell signaling. The position is funded by the Institut Nationale du Cancer (INCa) and is expected to start in March 2023 for 24 months with the possibility of extension. The candidate will have a solid understanding of Protein Biochemistry, Structural Biology, and Drug Design principles with an interest in tumor cell biology.
As a research engineer / postdoc you will join our international team composed of synthetic chemists, molecular modelers, informaticists, biochemists, structural biologists, and biologists in an outstanding and competitive scientific environment.

Activities

The candidate will take part in a project whose goal is the characterization of small molecule ligands of the pseudokinase PEAK1 obtained from chemical library screening for structure-based optimization into drug candidate molecules ('Lead'). The candidate will provide the rationale for chemical optimization strategies and new synthesis targets based on detailed molecular studies of the ligand-target binding. Studies will be carried out using our comprehensive biophysical/biochemical/biological experimental capacity.
* He/she will be responsible for developing a structural biology characterization strategy for the target.
* He/she will be responsible for x-ray data collection at the national synchrotron facilities.
* He/she will be responsible for delivering detailed protein-ligand binding data to the project team for the target.
* He/she will write the reports and technical specifications related to the project and participate in project team discussions.
* He/she will work closely with the other medicinal chemists, cheminformaticians, and biologists involved in the project.

Skills

We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative person who obtained her/his PhD and has strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a project team in a fast-paced environment.
• PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field
• Solid knowledge of protein biochemistry: recombinant protein expression and purification, biophysical characterization
• Solid knowledge of structural biology: protein crystallization, x-ray structure determination, protein observed NMR techniques
• Knowledge of structure-based drug design and structural biology modeling tools
• Ability to critically evaluate complex scientific data to provide recommendations to the project team
• Experience working in bash/Linux, Python, R, Java, and SQL database environments is a plus
• A creative accountable person with great communication skills who thrives in a “biotech-like” environment
• Excellent organizational skills, personal initiative and detail oriented
• Fluent in English, French language is a plus
