Missions
The missions of this position are part of the ANR WASPE (WAveguide plasma cell for terahertz SPEctroscopy) which focuses on the development of a THz plasma spectroscopy platform, based on a resonant cell composed of a hollow-core THz waveguide. This project gathers the laboratories: IEMN (Lille), LPCA (Dunkirk), ISMO (Paris Saclay) and XLIM (Limoges). The creation of this innovative platform should considerably improve the plasma-THz wave interaction, in order to identify with high sensitivity and selectivity the chemical species produced in the plasma. At the XLIM research institute (UMR CNRS, University of Limoges), we are developing hollow-core THz waveguides (based on silica capillaries) with state-of-the-art performance.
You will be responsible for:
- Designing, fabricating and characterizing different waveguides dedicated to the multiple objectives of the WASPE project. In particular, waveguides will be produced for different spectral bands in the THz domain.
- Finalizing a "prototype" version compatible with the resonant cell developed by the partners.
You will also be responsible for participating in the supervision of student interns, and exchanging with colleagues involved in this multidisciplinary project.
Activités
- Design of hollow core THz waveguides using modeling tools based on the finite element method.
- Fabrication of hollow core THz waveguides using XLIM's optical fiber fabrication facilities
- Characterization of the fabricated THz waveguides with time- or frequency-resolved THz spectroscopy benches
- Production of prototype waveguides adapted to the resonant cell developed in the WAPSE project.
- Synthesis and dissemination of results
- Co-supervision of students
- Participation in project management
Compétences
Knowledge
- Education in electromagnetism and propagation, preferably in the terahertz and/or photonics fields
- Knowledge on guided electromagnetic wave propagation
- Experience in the fabrication of photonic crystal optical fibers
- Knowledge and experience with RF or THz guided systems
- Experience in characterization using time-resolved THz (THz-TDS) or frequency-resolved THz (CW-THz) spectroscopy methods.
Skills
- Autonomy
- Decision-making capacity/sense of initiative
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Good writing skills
