Missions

This project aims to numerically model and fabricate an optical ultrasound sensor. This optical sensor will be based on a Fabry-Pérot cavity, where the polymer spacer ensures high sensitivity to ultrasound. This type of sensor is developed and used in the laboratory within a high-resolution all-optical photoacoustic imaging system, designed primarily to image neuronal activity in mice. The sensitivity of current sensors is limited, and the goal is to numerically test potential modifications that could improve it, followed by their fabrication.

Activités

The candidate will be required to:
- Numerically model the sensor using various software tools (Comsol, MATLAB).
- Compare simulation results with experimental characterizations of the sensors.
- Acoustically characterize different polymers to guide sensor design.
- Fabricate sensor prototypes and coordinate the various stakeholders involved in the multiple fabrication steps.
- Characterize the sensitivity of these sensors and test their functionality within an all-optical photoacoustic imaging system.

Compétences

The candidate must hold a PhD in physics or a related discipline. Strong programming skills (MATLAB) are essential. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and have a perfect command of English. Experience in the ultrasonic characterization of materials is desirable.

Contexte de travail

The postdoctoral position will be carried out at the Institut Fresnel within the Mosaic team, which comprises about 40 researchers and students working on various topics related to optical imaging for biology. The project will involve several collaborators, both within the Institut Fresnel (optical thin-film deposition, signal processing, optical component modeling) and externally (polymer deposition, biological applications). The candidate will actively contribute to strengthening the team in the design and fabrication of these sensors, including supervising interns and PhD students.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
