Job Description

Missions

The position is intended for a sociologist specialising in economic elites, gender and the sociology of value, and will form part of the interdisciplinary project “DIRIVA” (Running a business (17th–21st centuries): the value of gender), see https://anr.fr/Projet-ANR-23-CE41-0022.
The project, led by four research units, seeks to analyse, over the long term (17th–21st centuries) in France, the place and role of women in 'business management' activities, drawing on economic sectors that are currently feminised. By combining economic sociology, the sociology of elites and the sociology of managerial work, viewed through the lens of business history, legal history (business law and civil law) and gender history, it makes an original contribution to the renewal of the history of women's presence in corporate leadership roles and to the re-examination of gender differences in the control of capital.

Activity

The successful candidate will contribute to the various research activities carried out within the DIRIVA project, from data collection to the production and dissemination of research findings.

The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting empirical data through interviews, observations, and the compilation of research corpora. They will also contribute to the development and maintenance of a database on prizes and awards granted to women leaders during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
The successful candidate will undertake the processing and analysis of the data collected, drawing on qualitative, quantitative, and social network analysis methods. This work will contribute directly to the project's scientific outputs and findings.
The successful candidate will participate in the project's scientific production through the preparation of journal articles, contributions to an edited volume, and the dissemination of research results within the academic community.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the project's scientific activities by helping to organise the ANR seminar series and a conference scheduled for 2027. These activities will provide opportunities to engage in the project's scholarly exchanges and to develop collaborations within national and international research networks.

Your Profil

Skills

The successful candidate should have a strong background in sociology, with a particular interest in research on economic elites, gender relations, and processes of valuation and social recognition.

Demonstrated experience in qualitative research methods is required, including conducting interviews, carrying out observations, and analysing empirical materials. Proficiency in quantitative methods is also essential, including the construction and management of databases, statistical analysis, and the production of cartographic representations. Familiarity with social network analysis methods would be an asset.

The successful candidate should be able to engage with the international scholarly literature and participate in academic exchanges in English. They should also be comfortable working in an international research environment and collaborating with researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds.
