Missions

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team focusing on modelling marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) and its potential role in mitigating climate change. This position offers an opportunity to contribute both to cutting-edge research in mCDR/marine carbon cycle modelling and to work at the science-policy interface. The study focuses on two primary approaches: macroalgae cultivation and ocean alkalinity enhancement, analyzing their theoretical efficiency and carbon balance across their entire life cycle. The modeling side of the work will be carried at LOCEAN-IPSL (Paris, France). Collaboration with ADEME will enable access to the tools needed to evaluate the emissions induced by mCDR deployment

Activités

• Apply existing numerical models to simulate the CDR potential of macroalgae cultivation and ocean alkalinity enhancement in French EEZs
• Work with ADEME experts on carbon emission budgets on the full carbon budget of mCDR
• Collaborate with a group of researchers based at IPSL working on the carbon cycle and CDR on model development and model analysis
• Collaborate and contribute to scientific publications.
• Present research findings at conferences and workshops

Compétences

• PhD in oceanography, environmental science, or a related field.
• Strong background in numerical modelling and the use of modelling tools such as NEMO, ROMS, PISCES or other relevant models.
• Proficiency in high-level languages such as Python for data analysis/visualization.
• Expertise in the ocean carbon cycle
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex research to both scientific and non-scientific audiences
• Fluency in English; ability to read French documents provided by ADEME

Contexte de travail

• A dynamic, inclusive, friendly, supportive and collaborative research environment.
• Access to state-of-the-art Earth system modelling facilities and computational resources.
• Flexible working conditions
• Competitive salary commensurate with experience
• Financial support to travel and present findings internationally

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
