Missions
The post-doc will use a recently developed sediment module to simulate how global seabed interactions can influence the CDR potential of OAE. Using an ocean biogeochemical model (NEMO-PISCES) that has been coupled to this sediment module, they will perform global simulations of OAE under different scenarios of future anthropogenic emissions. These simulations will take into account differences in alkalinity mineral source and deployment method, highlighting whether seafloor feedbacks that reduce mCDR effectiveness can be minimised and informing potential OAE field trials.
Activités
- Develop and apply numerical models to simulate how OAE can influence ocean sedimentary processes and feedback on CDR potential.
- Contribute to the understanding of the effectiveness and environmental impacts of OAE strategies
- Collaborate and contribute to scientific publications.
- Present research results at conferences and workshops.
Compétences
- PhD in oceanography, environmental sciences, marine sciences, applied mathematics or a related field.
- Solid knowledge of numerical modelling and use of modelling tools such as NEMO, ROMS, PISCES or other relevant models.
- Proficiency in high-level languages such as Python for data analysis and visualisation. - Expertise in ocean carbon cycle and/or sediment dynamics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex research to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Contexte de travail
This position is co-supervised by Lester KwIatkowski (LOCEAN-Paris) and Olivier Sulpis (CEREGE, Aix-en-Provence). Working conditions are flexible, with the possibility of being based in either laboratory. This position is funded by the Priority Research Programme (PPR) of the French National Research Agency (ANR).
