Missions

At the Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology (IBPC) in Paris, you will join the UMR 7141 team, focusing on the physiology and photobiology of plastids and microalgae. This research project aims to explore the mechanisms of photoinhibition, a crucial process that affects Photosystem II in photosynthetic organisms, thereby limiting their photosynthetic capacity. You will contribute to optimizing methods for measuring photoinhibition and studying photoprotection mechanisms in various microalgae strains.

Activités

Your main roles will consist of:
- Developing and refining experimental protocols to assess photoinhibition in various mutant strains of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
- Studying the photoprotective role of two groups of "electron sink" proteins.
- Developing an effective photoinhibition protocol for Euglena gracilis, an organism with chromatic acclimation characteristics.
- Maintenance and culturing microalgae strains, as well as performing crosses of strains to obtain combined mutants.
- You will be responsible for communicating the project's progress and results through the creation of figures, explanatory reports, and presentations for the team and collaborators.

Compétences

We are looking for a candidate with a background in algae biology and strong skills in biophysics and photosynthesis research. In-depth knowledge of fluorescence measurements and their application to photosynthesis is essential. You should also have practical experience in handling microalgae, including preparing media, streaking, and inoculation. You must be able to work in sterile environments and controlled atmospheres and use data processing software such as OriginLab and Excel. Proficiency in scientific English is also necessary for communicating results and collaborating with international partners. You will work within a dynamic and multidisciplinary team consisting of researchers, doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, engineers, and technicians.

Contexte de travail

You will work at the Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology (IBPC) in Paris, a renowned institute comprising several research units. IBPC has over 200 members across five units, offering a stimulating and collaborative research environment. You will join the UMR 7141 team, focusing on the physiology and photobiology of plastids and microalgae. You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including time-resolved spectroscopy.
