Job Description
Missions
• Characterize sensory-driven behaviors in the cnidarian Clytia hemisphaerica and the colony-forming choanoflagellate Salpingoeca rosetta.
• Dissect the role of TRP channels in these organisms using a combination of genetics, immunochemistry, and live imaging.
• Lead the experimental design, define the direction of the project within the set goals, and priotize the tasks according to the time frame estipulated.
• Dissemination of results in oral and written form.
Activity
• Establishment of electronically controlled behavioural assays including but not limited to a microfluidics chemotaxis device and thermotaxis chamber assay
• Calcium imaging on C. haemipsherica larvae and S. rosetta colonies
• Spatiotemporal gene expression analysis in live and fixed samples using transgenesis and histology approaches
• Quantification, image and statistical analysis of behavioural phenotypes
• Writing of manuscript and conference attendance
Your Profil
Skills
• PhD in a relevant field (or in the final stages of completion).
• Track record in scientific dissemination of results (at least one first-author pre-print or publication and previous participation in conferences)
• Experience in neurobiological approaches, ideally in the field of sensory neurobiology
• Proficient in live and fluorescence microscopy, behavioural assays and genetics of behaviour
• Medium-level skills in molecular approaches (cloning, transformation, etc)
• Medium-level skills in coding and image analysis.
• Experience in microfluidics and electronics is advantegous
• Previous work on laboratory marine systems or in genetic models is preferable
Your Work Environment
• The researcher will be fully immersed in the Plankton Senses team and will carry out this project at the LBDV/IMEV.
• The researcher will participate in regular meetings and engage in discussions with members of the team and of the institute.
• The successful candidate will closely interact and will need to coordinate with the research assistant joining this project
• The researcher will communicate the results of the project in conferences and in peer-reviewed articles
• Participation in institutional seminars, retreats and social events organised by the team and by the institute.
