Missions
The CORIA laboratory is issuing a call for applications for a postdoctoral researcher position within the framework of the MIMOSA project, funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) as part of the Horizon Europe program. The project brings together experts in chemistry, biophysics, and scientific instrumentation with the aim of developing a revolutionary 4D microscope enabling biomaterials analysis through Atom Probe Tomography (APT), providing high spatial resolution and strong chemical sensitivity. The basic concept relies on the use of intense THz pulses to control the emission of heavy ions from a nanometric tip through field emission, thus offering unprecedented possibilities for ion dynamics control, as well as analysis and manipulation of matter. It has been demonstrated that intense THz pulses allow achieving athermal evaporation in the case of metallic materials, where the THz field is amplified by the metallic antenna effect. MIMOSA aims to address major scientific and technological challenges associated with extending this field emission concept to biomaterials.
Activités
The work will focus on the development of a high-intensity pulsed THz source meeting the requirements for ion evaporation by field-ion emission. To successfully develop the new THz-assisted APT technique, it is necessary to have pulsed THz sources providing sub-picosecond monocycle THz pulses with field intensities of several hundred kV/cm, operating at high repetition rates. Various approaches will be explored to increase the power of THz sources operating at high frequencies. The first approach involves developing a mid-infrared-emitting fiber laser to effectively drive THz generation in small-gap semiconductors and organic materials. The second approach will focus on implementing the discrete tilted wavefront pumping scheme using a reflective echelon mirror associated with high-power fiber lasers to efficiently pump different nonlinear crystals.
The recruited person will contribute to the implementation and optimization of high-repetition rate intense THz sources, the characterization of their performances, and their coupling with an APT instrument. He/she will also participate in disseminating the results through publications and participation in national and international conferences.
Compétences
The candidate should hold a master's degree in the fields of optics or applied physics, with theoretical and experimental skills in THz science and technology. Experience with ultrafast lasers and/or ultrafast optics would be highly appreciated. The research involves the design and construction of pulsed THz sources, as well as the collection and analysis of data within the framework of a collaborative project. The candidate should have an affinity for working in multidisciplinary teams. Indeed, they will play an active role in this collaboration by interacting with various partner laboratories involved in the MIMOSA project.
Contexte de travail
CORIA is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) affiliated with the Institute of Engineering and Systems (INSIS) of CNRS, the University of Rouen Normandy, and the Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Rouen Normandy. It is located at the Madrillet technopole, near Rouen. CORIA's research domains encompass both fundamental and applied studies in photonics, turbulence, atomization, and reactive flows. The recruited person will join the Optics and Lasers Department of CORIA.
The position falls within a sector related to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore, in accordance with regulations, your arrival must be authorized by the competent authority of MESR.
