Missions
Technical supervision of instruments and experimental devices for in-situ aerosol measurements. These measurements are to be carried out in the context of long-term observations at the Puy de Dome observatory and additionally during short term field campaigns.
Activités
The recruited research engineer will work at the Laboratoire de Météorologie Physiques (LaMP, Université Clermont Auvergne UMR CNRS 6016) as part of the group “Bio Physical and chemical processes within a cloudy atmosphere”, whose research focuses on studying the atmospheric processes involved in cloud formation.
The activities of the future research engineer will focus on the technical supervision and analysis of data, and the subsequent characterization of aerosol properties measured at the puy de Dome observatory. These activities will additionally extend to partner observatories on Reunion Island (MAIDO) and on Amsterdam island, all within the context of ACTRIS-IR and additionally within the French national observation service (SNO) CLAP. In addition to these long-term observation techniques, projects will also focus on the implementation of experimental devices and in-situ aerosol measurements deployed during future field campaigns (e.g. Ship based field campaign (SOPHYAC) in 2024).
Compétences
• Engineering techniques and sciences (mechanical design, electronics, optics, etc.) (in-depth knowledge)
• Physical sciences (in-depth knowledge)
• Setting up of experimental devices (thorough knowledge)
• Willing to travel to participate in intensive fields campaigns
Contexte de travail
The “instrumented sites” COPDD (Cézeaux-Aulnat Opme Puy De Dôme), and MAIDO have a strong international visibility, and the activity of the LaMP within these structures provides continuous physico-chemical data of several atmospheric aerosol variables following the recommendations of ACTRIS-RI (ACTRIS.eu). The involvement of these “instrumented sites” in the ACTRIS-EU thematic center on in-situ aerosol measurements requires high levels of performance in terms of equipment, operational functioning of the instruments, data quality monitoring, and trained staff.
In addition, the SNO CLAP, in collaboration with national projects 'Equipex OBS4CLIM”, work together to develop observation stations on Amsterdam Island and aboard the oceanographic vessel “Marion Dufresne” (MAP-IO).
The LaMP is also involved in field campaigns outside the context of ACTRIS, including airborne, ship-, and ground-based campaigns. It is also recognized by the international community for its expertise in aerosol microphysics and chemistry. These activities require the use of state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instruments acquired in the laboratory in recent years, and other experimental devices under development for aerosol measurements (ice nucleation chambers, portable simulation chambers...)
Contraintes et risques
The agent will be required to go on experimental missions and travel to observation sites nearby Clermont and Reunion Island.
