Missions

Applications are invited for a full time postdoctoral position in observational cosmology funded by the ERC Starting Grant USNAC and hosted by the “Institut de Physique des deux Infinis”in Lyon, France (IP2I, a CNRS/IN2P3 laboratory). The candidate will join Dr. Mickael Rigault to work on Type Ia supernova Cosmology.

Activities

As member of USNAC, the candidate will have access to Nearby Supernova Factory and Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) data ; for ZTF, as part of the Cosmology working group. ZTF is a unique new generation large scale survey that is collecting data and will gather within 2 years up to 2000 spectroscopically typed Type Ia supernovae wup to redshift 0.1. The host institution (IN2P3) is a funding member of LSST, hence, the candidate could also be part of this collaboration if he or she desires so.
The candidate is expected to:

- help on the collective ZTF data reduction effort ;
- work on SNeIa Cosmology, especially on our ability to extract cosmological parameter from SN data.
- help supervising the students of the group.

The successful candidate is also invited to develop and pursue her or his own research program within the boundaries of the USNAC activities.

Skills

Of particular interest are postdoctoral candidates interested by high accuracy measurements of cosmological parameters with knowledge in instrumental and observational aspects (notably photometry).

- Expert in SNeIa Cosmology
- Expert in data science, especially python.
- Good knowledge of SN host galaxy issues
- Experiences with photometric calibration.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by the start date of the position

Work Context

All costs related to research projects (missions, conferences, IT resources, etc.) will be covered. There is no teaching load associated with this position.
