Missions
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN has opened a new era in the exploration of the fundamental laws of Nature, and it will be the world's energy frontier machine for the foreseeable future. After the breakthrough discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, the question of what lies beyond the Standard Model (SM) of strong and electroweak interactions has become the primary target of the LHC physics program. With no clear signal observed so far in any of the numerous direct searches for new particles, the emphasis for Run 3 and the subsequent high-luminosity phase of LHC operation is shifting to precision measurements probing for deviations from SM expectations. This effort requires a global analysis of the LHC data to fully exploit the information it provides about physics at the TeV scale and beyond and thus maximise the LHC physics potential. An ideal framework for such a global analysis is provided by Effective Field Theories (EFTs), in which deviations from the SM are encoded in new effective interactions between known SM particles.
Activités
-Global (SM)EFT interpretation of LHC (Higgs, top, diboson, etc) and other measurements
-Improvement/extension of the SMEFT framework ; development of a consistent uncertainty model ; studies of limits of validity ;
-Development of public software tools for the purpose of EFT fits, including extended likelihood information from the experiments; development of a suitable format for fast “simplified” likelihoods suitable for global fits.
Compétences
-Excellent knowledge of theoretical particle physics (SM and beyond), including EFT approaches
-Excellent programming skills, strong interest in data science.
-Experience with global fits
-Interest to work in a team at the interface of theory and experiment
-Very good communication skills, ability to take initiative
Contexte de travail
The Laboratory of Subatomic Physics and Cosmology of Grenoble (LPSC) (http://lpsc.in2p3.fr) is a joint research unit associating the CNRS-IN2P3, the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and the Grenoble INP school , with an average workforce of approximately 230 people. The research fellow will be assigned to the theoretical physics group of the LPSC, currently consisting of 7 staff members, 2 post-docs and 5 PhD students; he or she will work within the ANR project EFTatLHC and will be placed under the direct hierarchical authority of the team leader.
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
