Description du sujet de thèse

Since its inception in 2010, Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly (PISA) has revolutionized the way polymer scientists synthesize self-assembled block copolymers nano-objects. Peptides are a pivotal class of biological or synthetic oligomers with an almost endless variety of structural and functional properties.able to self-assemble via weak interactions. PEPPISA aims to investigate the original combination of PISA with Self-assembling peptides as structuring agents during or after the polymerization process. It will study the effect of peptides specific interactions on the morphologies of objects obtained by PISA. This pioneering project will provide a better understanding of the complex competitive or synergetic mechanisms at work during the self-assembly of peptide diblock copolymers. In addition, peptide-containing PISA particles will be assessed as potential tools in vaccine technology.

Missions

A postdoctoral position is available at the European Membranes Institute for a period of 12 months starting 01.07.2025.
The project will explore the possibility of making biomimetic membranes via embeding "gating proteins" harvested from bacteria into a synthetic polymer film
The candidate (M/W) will learn the following techniques:
Polymer synthesis, synthesis and modification of small molecules, film and membrane preparation, characterization techniques (NMR, SEC, DLS, DMA, SEM, TEM, AFM, etc.).
The project is funded by EU.

Activités

- Synthesis of functionalized polymers.
- Characterization of the synthesized films and membranes.
- Testing and evaluating the membrane performance..
- Writing scientific articles and reports in English.

Compétences

The candidate (M/W) should have a strong background in synthetic and physical chemistry as well as knowledge in characterization (SEC, NMR, DLS, DMA, rheology and microscopy).
A good command of English (both spoken and written) and solid experience in writing scientific articles and technical reports is also required.
International candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Contexte de travail

The “Institut Européen des Membranes” (IEM), founded in 1994 is a reference laboratory at the international level in the field of membrane materials and processes with research objectives based on a multidisciplinary approach and multi-scale:
– the development and characterization of new membrane materials;
– their implementation in membrane processes (effluent treatment, gas separation, biotechnologies related to food science and health….).

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
