Missions

This postdoctoral project is part of an interdisciplinary approach in response to a major environmental issue: the dispersion of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Activities

The work will involve modeling the atmospheric dispersion of PFAS (using the SIRANE model), their deposition on the ground, and their transfer through the food chain (using an approach inspired by CalTOX), with a focus on an industrial site in France. Stochastic modeling via Monte Carlo simulations will be used to explore parameter-related uncertainties. The results will be compared to available measurements (from Atmo-AuRA and ARS) for validation. The researcher will also contribute to the geographical extension of this methodology to case studies in Tucson (Arizona, USA) and Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada), in collaboration with international partners.

Skills

Hold a PhD in fluid mechanics, with expertise in atmospheric turbulence, pollutant dispersion modeling, environmental data processing, and coding (Python, MATLAB, or similar). Experience in uncertainty analysis/stochastic modeling will be an asset

Work Context

The researcher will work within the 'Environmental Flows' team of the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (LMFA), located on the Centrale Lyon campus in Écully. There will be interactions with several local and international academic and institutional partners.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
