Missions
Transmissible cancers of bivalves are recently discovered biological entities. First results concerning the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of these transmissible cancer lineages in marine mussels have recently been published, but the modalities of host response to this type of infection are unknown. The main mission of the recruited person will therefore be to study the host response following an infection by these transmissible malignant cells. As the experiment has already been conducted, the aim will be to observe the histological sections generated and to analyze the transcriptomic data in order to identify i) how bivalves respond to this type of infection; ii) whether there are distinct inter-individual susceptibilities in the hosts. The recruit will also be asked to develop a protocol for cryopreservation of transmissible mussel cancer lines.
