Missions
Many electric vehicles are now available on the market and the demand of these vehicles continues to increase. The fleet of electric vehicles registered in France has increased from 4300 in 2011 to 31000 in 2017. The recharging process could consume a lot of time, usually depending on the technology of the batteries. Fast charging for Li-ion battery (LIB) is crucial for use of electronic devices and transportation. However, LIB still have some serious drawbacks especially for fast charging protocols. Many of the problems can be related for one part to surface phenomena occurring on the negative and positive electrodes and for another part to structural modifications (expansion-contraction, crystal disorder), in simpler words, internal degradations of active materials. Moreover, safety protocol is also the main concern during the manipulation of this type of battery especially during high temperature elevation because of its high specific energies. In regards of fast charging process, the high temperature elevation is something that is unavoidable. Thus, reliable fast-charging protocols are developed and improved to properly charge the battery until a certain state of charge and monitor the state of health of the battery.
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the EIP team responsible for developing and managing the fast charge of Li-ion batteries within Laboratory LEPMI. He/she will work under the supervision of Pr. Y. Bultel, Pr. P-X. Thivel and Pr. J-C. Lepretre within the framework of the IBIS project whose aim is to develop innovative Li-ion batteries for electric vehicle
Activités
The postdoctoral researcher M/F will be responsible for monitoring the IBIS2 project, implementing lithium-ion battery fast charging tests and all post-mortem analyses in order to identify degradation mechanisms at the material level. In particular, he/she will be responsible for SEM and tomographic analyzes in collaboration with campus platforms (3SR, CMTC).
Compétences
The postdoctoral researcher M/F will work with the test bench available at the LEPMI laboratory. Knowledge of materials for energy and knowledge of physico-chemical characterization are required.
Contexte de travail
Work carried out as part of the IBIS project led by Stellantis, SAFT, E2CAD and Sherpa Engineering with the support of the GeePs, Lepmi and SATIE laboratories.
