Missions

The objective of this project is to use NV scanning center microscopy to study antiferromagnetic and altermagnetic materials, at the Laboratoire Charles Coulomb in Montpellier (team S2QT) as part of the ALTEROSPIN project. The aim is to examine in detail the magnetic textures present in these materials, to identify criteria for differentiating a collinear antiferromagnetic state from an altermagnetic state, and to identify how the specific properties of altermagnetic materials are reflected in the magnetic texture.

Activités

- Operation of scanning NV center microscopes under ambient and low-temperature conditions.
- In-depth analysis of obtained experimental data.
- Interaction with collaborators who will provide samples within the ALTEROSPIN project.
- Oral and written presentations of results.
- Active participation in the supervision of PhD students and trainees working on related topics (NV microscopy and nanomagnetism)

Compétences

- Experimental thesis in condensed matter physics, particularly on related topics (electronic properties).
- Master training in quantum physics.
- Hands-on experience in local probe microscopy.
- Minimum level of English C1.
- Basic knowledge of Python programming.

Contexte de travail

This work will contribute to the ALTEROSPIN project, funded by PEPR SPIN. Regular exchanges will take place with the project partners (Laboratoire Albert Fert and C2N in Palaiseau, CEA SPEC in Saclay, CINAM in Marseille and SPINTEC in Grenoble), who will supply the samples to be studied.
The host team at L2C, Solid-State Quantum Technologies, is formed by about 20 people working on the quantum properties of defects in semiconductors, and in particular for this project, their use as quantum sensors. Four NV microscopes are available in the team, and are used for research into nanomagnetism and the development of quantum sensors. One of them will be assigned to the work of the person recruited.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

No particular constraints or risks. Occasional travel in France and abroad is to be expected.
