Set up and test the gas recycling and purification system (He)
Perform beam characterization of SMACTAR (ACTAR TPC demonstrator) in pure 4He
Participate in experimental program using helium-3 gas
Participate in the operation of the ACTAR TPC detector.

Activités

The person recruited will be in charge of analyzing the SMACTAR demonstrator's proof-of-principle experiments. He/she will be responsible for setting up, testing and characterizing in-situ a gas recycling and purification system developed for this demonstrator.
In addition, SMACTAR will be equipped with a Th-GEM amplification system. Tests will be carried out under beam, initially with a pure helium-4 gas, and will be implemented for an experiment with a pure helium-3 gas in a second phase.
The postdoc will also be involved in setting up and testing the cryogenic helium-3 target developed under the same ANR program, and in the ACTAR measurement campaigns at GANIL.

Contexte de travail

The "Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds" is a national research infrastructure based on the use of ion beams. Fields of research include fundamental research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, materials under irradiation and nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology and innovative techniques for imaging and therapy of certain cancers.
GANIL (around 300 people) is located on the future EPOPEA site, the science and innovation park of the Caen la Mer urban community, in Caen, Normandy. It is jointly managed, within an Economic Interest Group (EIG), by the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA/DRF) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS/IN2P3). As a research infrastructure, GANIL serves a national, European and international scientific community of around a thousand users.

The person recruited will be attached to IN2P3's Unité d'Appui et de Recherche du CNRS (UAR 3266), and will work in the STARS (Structure, Astrophysics, Reactions and Spectroscopy) group, reporting to a Group Leader within the Physics Division, which also comprises 5 other physics groups, as well as the DELPH (Detection and Lasers for Physics) and GTA (Groupe des Techniques d'Acquisition) groups.
The Physics Division is made up of 25 permanent physicists, around twenty PhD students and ten post-docs, all under the responsibility of a Division Manager.

The Physics Division is responsible for hosting experiments carried out at GANIL by an international scientific community. They also run an R&D program on detection techniques, laser techniques, data acquisition techniques for experiments, and the manufacture of targets and thin films. The person will be assigned to the STARS (Structure, Astrophysics, Reactions and Spectroscopy) group, reporting to a Group Leader.

This position is part of the upgrade of the ACTAR TPC detector, carried out as part of the ANR ATRACT program supported by IJCLab and co-sponsored by GANIL.
The contract is renewable.
The person recruited by the CNRS will benefit from 53 days of annual leave (including 21 JRTT due to a weekly work cycle of 40 hours), and from benefits offered by the CNRS social action committee.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

As GANIL is classified as a basic nuclear facility (INB), the position is subject to specific work constraints linked to potential exposure to ionizing radiation. The person must be authorized by the GANIL medical department to work in a supervised and controlled area, in accordance with applicable nuclear safety and security regulations and procedures.
