Missions
The person recruited will contribute to collective effects studies for the high-energy booster of the FCC-ee project (Future Circular Collider). They will be in charge of the impedance budget of the booster ring. They will also contribute to studies on induced instabilities due to wake-fields, intra-beam scattering and coherent synchrotron radiation.
Activities
Under the authority of the person in charge of collective effects studies for the FCC-ee booster, the activities are organized, in order of priority, as follows:
- Establish the impedance budget of the FCC-ee high-energy booster ring. This includes interaction with experts in other fields, including vacuum, radio-frequency cavities, magnets, optics, injection and transfer lines.
- Contribute to instabilities studies and investigate different mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to the benchmarking of simulation codes and the investigation of innovative approaches.

Work Context
The FCC project is part of the preparations for future large colliders for particle physics. It involves a ring almost 100km in circumference. Its first step, FCC-ee, is an electron-positron collider. It is a Higgs and electroweak factory operating at energies ranging from 91 GeV to 365 GeV. In the same tunnel as the collider, a high-energy booster, the same diameter as the main ring, extracts the 20 GeV particle beam from the pre-injector, increases its energy and delivers it to the collider main ring with the performance required for physics experiments.
The team in charge of studies for the booster is split between GANIL (France), CEA IRFU (France), CERN (Switzerland), DESY (Germany) and La Sapienza (Italy). This team interacts closely with the teams in charge of studies for the pre-injector complex and those in charge of studies for the main ring.
The person recruited will be based at GANIL in Caen.
The Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds is a national research infrastructure based on the use of ion beams. Its fields of fundamental research are nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, the study of materials under irradiation and nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology and innovative techniques for imaging and therapy of certain cancers.
GANIL (about 300 people) is located in France, in the city of Caen, in Normandy. GANIL is located on the future EPOPEA science and innovation park of the Caen la Mer urban community. It is managed jointly, within an Economic Interest Group (GIE) by the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA/DRF) and by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS/IN2P3). As a national research infrastructure, GANIL serves the a national, European and international scientific community composed of about one thousand users.
The person recruited will be assigned to GANIL's Division Opération et Développements (DOD) within the Physique des Accélérateurs (GPA) group, made up of 12 engineers. The mission of this group is to develop and share high-level expertise on Particle Accelerators. This expertise covers the critical topics of beam dynamics, establishment of basic beam optics, beam feasibility studies, definition and analysis of radiofrequency and pulsed systems, beam-cavity interaction, mastery of spectrometers and lines for physics, and more generally Particle Accelerators (Linac, cyclotrons).
The person recruited by CNRS will be entitled to 53 days' leave with a 40-hour working week, and will enjoy benefits offered by the social action committee for GANIL CNRS staff.
The proposed contract is renewable.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
Constraints and risks
Frequent travel is required between Caen, Paris and Geneva.
Occasional travel is required to participate in project events, collaboration meetings and conferences.
Additional Information
Applications must include a cover letter, CV, list of publications and two letters of recommendation.
Inquiries about the position should be addressed to Adnan GHRIBI adnan.ghribi@ganil.fr
