Job Description
Thesis Subject
A fully funded 3-year CIFRE PhD position is opening in my group “Thin Films and Micromechanics” at LSPM-CNRS–CNRS, co-supervised by Dr. Martin Robin and myself, in strong collaboration with Saint-Gobain Research (SGR-Paris) with Dr. Alessandro Benedetto.
PhD Topic:
Engineering Thermally Stable and Mechanically Robust Thin Films (THERMO-FILMS)
Project Overview:
This PhD project focuses on understanding the impact of thermal tempering on thin film microstructure, mechanical behavior, and interfacial adhesion with strong relevance for industrial coating applications. The work will combine:
• Thin film synthesis by PVD (at Saint-Gobain Research)
• Advanced micromechanical testing (nanoindentation, nanoscratch, optoacoustics, in and ex situ SEM) (at LSPM)
• Multiscale microstructural characterization
Work Locations:
• Saint-Gobain Research (Aubervilliers, Paris area)
• LSPM–CNRS (Villetaneuse, Paris area)
Start Date: April – October 2026
Candidate Profile:
Master's degree in Materials Science, Materials Physics, Mechanics, or related fields. Strong motivation for experimental research and industry-oriented projects is expected.
