Job Description

Thesis Subject

The doctoral project is part of therapeutic research aimed at alleviating pain. It seeks to characterize the role of vasopressin and its receptor, AVPR1A, in the modulation of nociceptive circuits within the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The project combines ex vivo electrophysiological approaches with in vivo optogenetic manipulations to determine how spinal vasopressinergic signaling modulates neuropathic pain. The objective is to assess whether spinal activation of the AVPR1A receptor could represent an innovative non-opioid analgesic target.
This project will provide a detailed characterization of the cellular and synaptic mechanisms through which vasopressin (AVP) modulates spinal nociceptive circuits and reduces pain hypersensitivity symptoms. It will also establish a strong foundation for the development of novel non-opioid analgesic strategies targeting AVPR1A receptors.

Your Work Environment

The successful candidate will join the Cellular and Integrative Neuroscience Institute (INCI) in Strasbourg, a CNRS research institute comprising approximately 140 staff members, within the Peptidergic Control of Emotions research team led by Dr. Alexandre Charlet. The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Strasbourg (ED414).
The research conducted by Dr. Hugues Petitjean and Dr. Alexandre Charlet focuses on the integration of nociceptive information within neuronal networks and the functional characterization of molecules with potential analgesic properties. The Peptidergic Control of Emotions team is part of a dynamic trinational research network bringing together French, German, and Swiss laboratories.
This exceptional location at the heart of Europe provides an outstanding environment for early-career scientists, offering both technical and theoretical training opportunities. The institute is situated in a green and pleasant setting on the University of Strasbourg's Esplanade campus, with access to on-campus dining facilities, convenient public transportation, and a friendly, collaborative atmosphere.
