Job Description
Thesis Subject
Electric dipole moment of an electron using cesium in a cryogenic matrix
Your Work Environment
Electric dipole moments (EDMs) are sensitive probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this project, we propose to measure the EDM of electrons using particles embedded in a cryogenic solid matrix of noble gas or hydrogen. These matrices offer unprecedented sample sizes while retaining many characteristics of an atomic physics experiment, such as laser manipulation.
An EDM experiment on atoms and molecules in inert gas matrices has the potential to achieve a statistical sensitivity several orders of magnitude greater than that of any other proposed technique
This thesis will be conducted as part of a close collaboration between experimental groups (LAC, ISMO, University of Reno, United States) and theoretical groups (CIMAP in Caen).
