Description of the thesis topic

The objective of this work is the study of the periodic structuring of optomechanical waveguides. This work will include the development and optimization of optical and mechanical simulation tools for the design of periodic optomechanical waveguides. The numerical results will be combined with simplified physics-based models to find the optimal dimensions maximizing the efficiency of the coupling between the optical and mechanical modes.

The research activity carried out during this phase will involve a theoretical study of cutting-edge optomechanical structures in order to understand their principles and limitations. The work will also include the development of simplified models based on the physics governing optomechanical coupling. These simplified models will enable the optimization of optomechanical waveguides.

Work Context

The Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies - C2N (CNRS/University Paris-Saclay) was established on June 1, 2016, from the merger of two leading laboratories in the Paris region: the Laboratory of Photonics and Nanostructures (LPN) and the Institute of Fundamental Electronics (IEF). In 2018, the teams moved into a building located at the heart of the Paris-Saclay Campus.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

Work in experimental laboratory and cleanroom.
