Description of the thesis topic

High-accuracy modeling of laser wakefield acceleration

Work Context

To achieve this advance in the LWFA technology readiness level it is crucial to precisely understand the interaction between the laser and the plasma under LWFA experimental conditions. Recent findings in the LWFA literature have shown that using ideal plasma density profiles and laser fluence distributions in analytical and numerical models cannot accurately capture all the nonlinear phenomena that degrade the electron beam quality as observed in experiments. Imperfections in the laser spot and the precise shape of density gradients in the gas target have a significant impact on the electron beam injection and acceleration. However, the interaction between these initial conditions within the overall LWFA process remains largely unexplored.
