Job Description
Thesis Subject
PhD candidate in Antarctic cloud modelling. More specifically, the PhD project will focus on multiscale modelling of clouds in the Antarctic atmospheric boundary layer, with the aim of improving our understanding of their dynamics and microphysics, as well as their representation in climate models.
Your Work Environment
The PhD candidate will join the Climate and Climate Change Modelling and Research Team at the Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD), which has strong expertise in atmospheric modelling and cloud physics. They will contribute to the ongoing ANR AMUNDSEN project gathering experts in polar observations and modelling, which aims to improve cloud modelling in Antarctica. The candidate will be supervised by a team of three researchers with complementary expertise in Antarctic meteorology and cloud observations, high-resolution cloud modelling, and polar climate modelling.
• Analysis of in situ and satellite observational data to characterize cloud dynamics in selected case studies.
• Modelling of Antarctic clouds using high-resolution simulations performed with the Méso-NH large-eddy simulation (LES) model.
• Development of a new cloud parameterization tailored to Antarctic conditions for implementation in the LMDZ atmospheric general circulation model.
