Job Description

Thesis Subject

This PhD topic forms part of the ANR MolKiCy project at the PPSM laboratory at ENS Paris-Saclay. Its aim is to develop new families of molecules combining the properties of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and circularly polarised luminescence (CPL) for use as emitters in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). MolKiCy's approach is to utilise molecular backbones that have been little studied to date, based on weak interactions between electron-rich and electron-poor moieties in a chiral environment. The PhD student recruited will be involved in all stages of the project. Initially, part of the work will be dedicated to the molecular modelling of the different parts of the proposed molecules and of the structures as a whole. These simulations will enable an initial assessment of the properties of the proposed molecules and the selection of the most promising ones. Next, significant organic synthesis work will be carried out to synthesise the molecules selected in the previous stage. Once the molecules have been synthesised, photophysical and chiral characterisation will confirm the presence of the expected properties (TADF and CPL). These studies of the various molecules will provide a better understanding of the structural factors influencing these properties and enable these factors to be taken into account in molecular design. Through an iterative process, this stage will also enrich the information relevant to the modelling aspect of the project. Using the best molecules, OLED devices can be created to complete the proof of concept.
