Description du sujet de thèse

The PhD student will operate in the frame of the IPCEI07 project (“Evaluation of Thick-Film SAW technology to create a European industrial sector for 5G radio-frequency filters”).

TF SAW (Thin Film Surface Acoustic Waves) technology, which appeared in 2019, is an attractive solution for filtering in high frequency bands in mobile communications (5G for example). However, it is complex and requires redefining the design methodology and manufacturing rules. The PhD student will work on the development of surface acoustic wave filters based on TF SAW technology. He will be involved in all aspects of clean room manufacturing and characterization of elementary components (delay lines and resonators) and filters. He will also participate in physical simulation and design tasks based on theoretical and numerical models available within the laboratory.
This work within the AIMAN-FILM and ACOUSTICS teams of IEMN will be carried out as part of a project associating the IEMN and STMicroelectronics within the framework of the IEMN-ST Joint Laboratory.

The candidate must hold a master's degree in one of the following domains: micro-nano technology, acoustics, physics, or similar disciplines. Knowledge of piezoelectricity, RF acoustic waves and/or clean room micro-fabrication are also welcome.
Excellent oral & written English skills are required.

Contexte de travail

The Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (UMR CNRS 8520 – https://www.iemn.fr/en/) is located in Villeneuve d'Ascq, near the city of Lille (France). With a total staff of more than 500 people, the institute has a broad area of research activity ranging from physics to materials science, acoustics, micro and nanotechnologies. The work will take place both at Ecole Centrale de Lille in Villeneuve d'Ascq (where the AIMAN-FILM team is located) and in the JUNIA-ISEN building in Lille (where the ACOUSTICS team is located).

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

The risks are mainly linked to work in clean room environment. Safety training on this subject is organized several times a year within the laboratory.
