Description du sujet de thèse

The activities of the PhD program for active function design will focus on the design of active blocks using the SiGe BiCMOS B55X technology proposed by ST Microelectronics as an advanced technology for broadband in systems beyond 5G and 6G . Among the targeted MMICs, the power amplifier (PA) and the low noise amplifier (LNA) will be at the heart of the work as well as the associated passive devices. The design activities will be carried out using industrial tools (Cadence) and Design Kits (DK) supported by ST Microelectronics. The work will be carried out at IEMN, in close collaboration with SHIFT partners (related to applications), and will include the complete characterization of the circuits developed. This includes linear characterization using vector network analyzers (VNA) for overall performance evaluation and feedback to technology. In relation to the targeted applications, the noise (NF) and power (P1dB) performances must be qualified. The intermodulation of the PA and the LNA will also have to be evaluated using an approach recently developed at 300 GHz, which must be adapted to the D band and integrated into automated characterization tools such as LABVIEW or equivalent.
In addition to day-to-day work, participation in SHIFT project reports/meetings, dissemination at conferences, workshops and contributions to journal articles will take place in parallel with laboratory activities.

Contexte de travail

The SHIFT project is a JU-KDT action, supported by 51 partners, European public research and academic organizations, private industrial leaders, aims to make important contributions to future telecommunications systems, through innovations in component technologies and of systems. SHIFT will develop innovative semiconductor and packaging technologies and their validation with demonstrators for telecommunications fields such as access and backhaul to 5GNR (Beyond 5G) and 6G wireless networks, very high speed optical links between servers, satellite telecommunications and Earth observation. SHIFT will also contribute to environmental and societal concerns, with the analysis of the life cycle of telecommunications products, through their manufacturing chain, their operational use and their recycling. Finally, the SHIFT project wants to respond to Europe's desire for sovereignty in semiconductors, by accelerating the development and diffusion of new European technologies, by allowing many young engineers and researchers to train, thanks to the results the most recent. SHIFT thus intends to propose an ambitious and sustainable development project to innovative European companies.
