Description du sujet de thèse
Domain walls and skyrmions in magnetic ultrathin films are magnetic spin textures that can behave as solitons. They can be moved in nanotracks using electrical currents, which opens perspectives for information processing, and alternatives to traditional CMOS electronics. In the last ten years, chiral textures have demonstrated efficient dynamics properties, including a high sensitivity to electrical spin polarized currents. The objective of this PhD is to conceive circuits where domain walls and skyrmions can be converted one to the other to benefit from their respective advantages. On the fundamental point of view, this will provide insights in the mechanism involved in the modification of the texture topology. The conversion will be achieved in samples where the magnetic properties are varied spatially to tune spatially the relative energy between skyrmions and domain walls.
Contexte de travail
The work will take place at the Solid State Physics Laboratory (LPS) in Orsay, at the University of Paris-Saclay. This laboratory is composed of 250 members including a hundred of researchers and teacher-researchers and studies condensed matter in three areas: new electronic states of matter, physical phenomena in reduced dimensions and soft matter and the physics-biology interface. The student will be a member of the IDMAG (Imaging and Dynamics in Magnetism) group which studies magnetic textures in ultrathin magnetic layers.
