Job Description

Thesis Subject

Cocaine drug trafficking logistics in France: analysing the influence of French Guyana, the Antilles and Brazil on regional distribution networks.

Your Work Environment

This project attempts to deepen the understanding of contemporary dynamics of cocaine trafficking between Latin America, the Antilles and France. Emphasis will be placed on the dialogue between large, transnational distribution trafficking and semi-large distribution in France, a part of the network that is currently understudied.

This project will pay particular attention to:
-the logistical role of the Caribbean islands and the Antilles in transnational drug trafficking,
-and the interactions between the criminal groups active in these territories and the criminal groups in France, both in urban and in rural areas.

Theoretical and Methodological Framework
Rooted in an empirical approach to illegal markets, the project reflects upon power structures linked to coercion and control, to protection markets and to the accumulation of capital.

The methodology combines:
-Qualitative research (ethnography, interviews, documentary analysis),
-Quantitative analysis (statistics, surveys),
-Mixed methods.

The project will work in collaboration with IRL CNRS Mondes en Transition (Worlds in Transition), in an interdisciplinary perspective. The doctoral student will participate actively to the intellectual life of the CEE and will collaborate with an international network of researchers who work on the links between criminality and power structures.

Travel in France and abroad is to be expected for terrain investigations.
