Description of the thesis topic
Social tipping dynamics of climate action
The goal of this PhD is to understand and model how individuals make decisions in the face of novel knowledge on the sustainable behavior of others, based on the results of psychological experiments conducted during the thesis, and to develop and study mathematical models of social tipping dynamics resulting from the aggregation of these individual behaviors, social contagion and interventions in the form of additional information, ultimately informing the design of more effective climate communication strategies.
Review literature, design stochastic models, design and conduct behavioral experiments, analyse the produced data, study mathematical properties of the models specifically for the experimental estimates of parameter values, assess the efficacy of different social interventions.
Work Context
The research work will be carried out under the dual supervision of Amaury Lambert (for modeling) and Mélusine Boon-Falleur (for behavioral sciences). The person recruited will work in their host laboratories (IBENS at ENS, CIRB at Collège de France, CRIS at Sciences Po).
Constraints and risks
Computer work, possibility of conducting interviews with respondents.
