Description du sujet de thèse

The Mars-MOSAIC project aims to significantly advance our understanding of very shallow (one to tens of meters) ground ice on Mars, which has been found to be much more widespread than once thought. This is the most accessible ice to future human exploration, and is important as a potential astrobiology target. We propose a program based on two complementary approaches: (i) radar analysis to map and characterize ground ice with unprecedented accuracy (PhD funded by UArizona, starting in 2025) and (ii) simulation of the formation and evolution of ground ice to decipher its origin (this project).

Contexte de travail

The GEOPS laboratory conducts cutting-edge research on several geoscience topics. GEOPS has 98 agents and is located in Orsay. The thesis topic falls within the field of planetology, under the theme “Evolution of the Earth and Planets.” The aim is to establish new numerical simulations of the climate and ice stability in the history of Mars in order to analyze data from the latest international space missions. The Phd advisor will be Frédéric Schmidt
