Job Description
Thesis Subject
As part of international initiatives to standardize cryptographic algorithms designed to withstand quantum computers, numerous new candidates in multivariate cryptography were proposed in June 2023. This thesis aims to investigate the new assumptions underlying these schemes. Given the novelty of these assumptions (spanning a few years, compared to the 25+ years for UOV), the objective is to assess the hardness of some of these new problems by attempting to improve existing attacks and potentially propose new ones.
This encompasses resistance against both classical and quantum adversaries—the latter having received little attention to date in the field of multivariate cryptography.
Furthermore, the security of implementations of these new multivariate schemes will also be addressed, particularly regarding physical attacks (such as side-channel and fault attacks), with the aim of paving the way for their practical deployment in industrial applications.
Your Work Environment
The doctoral student will be integrated into the 'Cryptology and Information Security' team of the LMV laboratory (UMR CNRS 8100). He will be supervised by Louis Goubin (LMV laboratory), with very regular updates on the progress of the research, and the training will be monitored within the framework of the ED STIC, also relying on the individual thesis monitoring committee.
Constraints and risks
The position is located in a relevant sector of the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
