Description of the thesis topic

Having grown up in a constrained political context but also in a dynamic and pluralist digital universe, the doctoral research will focus on the political reflexivities of Internet specialists in Russia. More specifically, it will focus on young people engaged in computer science and web development studies based on a sociological survey of engineers and young graduates of technical schools and faculties. Their future choices raise moral and civic issues at a time when new technical developments are taking shape (artificial intelligence, facial recognition, new financial flows, etc.) in a context where citizens are being questioned about dilemmas linked in particular to the use of personal data and the surveillance they entail. The survey will allow to analyse their relationship to the world and to their society, as new digital practices are transforming the way people inform and entertain themselves, take care of themselves and vote. Beyond the case of Russia, this project will contribute to the advancement of knowledge on political reflexivities in contemporary digitally transformed societies.
