Description of the thesis topic

The aim of this thesis consists in the development of the foundations and the application of the approach based on irreversible Markov chains for Monte Carlo simulations in physics and more generally in the exact sciences. The thesis will proceed along three directions:

1/ The development of theoretical methods allowing to overcome the present limitations of the the method (composite particles or spins, applications in quantum-field theory, mathematical proofs).

2/ The development of the computer application JeLLyFysh (in Python3) and its use in the physics of polymers and in biophysics.

3/ The extension of the method to data sciences.

Work Context

This thesis will be realized in the the physics department of Ecole normale supérieure, at 24 rue Lhomond, 75005 Paris (France). This laboratory counts more than 90 staff researchers in fundamental physics. The thesis will be directed by Werner Krauth, research director at CNRS (theoretical physics) and adjoint professor at Ecole normale supérieure.

Additional Information

The candidate should have a master in physics. The position requires solid knowledge in theoretical physics and mathematics, and good eperience of computer programming, in particular in Python. Good oral and writing skills in English are required for the presentation of results in scientific congresses and for the writing of manuscripts for scientific journals.
