Description of the thesis topic
Mixed dimension van der Waals hetero-structures for the development of artificial carbon-based quantum nano-emitters
Work Context
Within the "Quantum Materials and Devices" axis of LPENS, (physics laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure) the Nano-optics team wishes to recruit a doctoral student within the framework of the ANR MIDI project (AAP2024). We wish to develop artificial nano-crystals based on two-dimensional van der Waals-type materials to accommodate carbon emitters such as quantum dots or graphene nano-ribbons, with the aim of controlling their optical properties and hybridizing them with those of the materials composing the artificial crystals. This work is part of the general framework of the development of light sources for quantum technologies.
Constraints and risks
This is a work with a strong experimental component, including nano-fabrication in a clean room and a component of advanced spectroscopic studies at the scale of the individual molecule in a cryogenic environment. All the results obtained will be subject to analysis and data processing within the framework of modeling the observed photo-physical phenomena.
