Job Description

Thesis Subject

Touch is the first sensory modality to develop in utero and plays a fundamental role in the formation of body representations and the acquisition of sensorimotor skills, particularly manual dexterity. Yet, surprisingly little is known about how these body representations emerge during development and how they support the acquisition of fine motor skills. This PhD project will investigate the emergence of body representations from infancy to childhood by combining functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), and behavioural approaches. Using a translational perspective, the project will compare developmental trajectories in typically developing children, preterm-born children, and children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) to identify the sensory mechanisms underlying the acquisition of manual dexterity and uncover potential early biomarkers of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Your Work Environment

The Integrative Neurosciences and Cognition Center (INCC) is located in central Paris, near Saint-Germain-des-Prés (45 rue des Saints-Pères, 75006 Paris, France). The PhD candidate will join the Perception and Action research team under the supervision of Dr Dollyane Muret.

Experimental work will be carried out at the INCC BabyLab (https://babylab.incc-paris.fr/), a research facility dedicated to welcoming families and young children participating in experimental studies in developmental and cognitive neuroscience.

The successful candidate will be employed full-time (35 hours per week). Remote working may be arranged upon mutual agreement with the supervisor.
