Thesis Subject

This thesis project will tackle the question of mechanosensing by actin and vimentin cytoskeletal filaments, focusing on the LIM-domain family of proteins, some of which have already been shown to recognize filament mechanical state. This is an experimental project based on in vitro reconstitution experiments inside microfluidics chambers, using purified and fluorescently labelled proteins. The candidate will quantify the mechanical response of single filaments and the dynamic binding of selected LIM-domain proteins. The final aim will be to propose a model for mechanical stress recognition and LIM-domain cluster formation, in order to better understand cell mechanotransduction.

Your Work Environment

The Institut Jacques Monod (IJM) (https://www.ijm.fr/), mix research unit CNRS/Université Paris Cité, gathers 300 people et represents one of the main fundamental biology research center in the Paris area. The hiring team (www.actindynamics.net) is interested in the dynamics of the cytoskeleton (actin and intermediate filaments).
The IJM is located inside the Université Paris Cité campus, in the Paris-Rive Gauche district (13th district of Paris, accessible by all public transport means: metro 14, RER C, tram T3, buses 62 and 89).
