Job Description

Thesis Subject

This PhD project will study the inner workings of a magnetic tunnel junction with a spin qubit in the tunnel barrier, with a focus on the ferromagnetic property of the device electrodes. During the project, a tailored electrode will be controlled and integrated into MTJ devices using nanosphere lithography, and studied using magnetransport.

Your Work Environment

The PhD candidate will join the Quantum Molecular Spintronics team, which investigates spintronic transport across molecules at the IPCMS (Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg). The project will be carried out under the supervision of Martin Bowen as part of an ITI QMart project, which is dedicated to the study of how to perform quantum technologies using spintronics.

The student will be enrolled in the Doctoral School of Physics and Physical Chemistry (ED182) at Université de Strasbourg. A university cafeteria is located approximately 30 meters from the laboratory. The laboratory, situated on the Cronenbourg campus, is about a 10-minute bus ride from Strasbourg railway station.

Constraints and risks

Apart from conference attendance, no travel is expected. There are no on-call duties; however, some experiments may occasionally need to be conducted outside normal working hours, including in the evening and/or during weekends. The main identified risks are related to the use of cleanroom techniques. Appropriate safety training will be provided to the successful candidate before commencing experimental work.
