Description du sujet de thèse
We seek a motivated student that will conduct research on mass transfer processes in subduction zones. Subduction zones are the primary location of exchange between the surface and the deep Earth and regulate planetary climate over geological time scales. The project will have a particular focus on quantifying the relationship between mineral dehydration reactions and the deep recycling of water and carbon. The student will primarily use stable isotope tools such as thallium, barium, vanadium, potassium, zinc and copper. The student will receive training in ion exchange chromatographic methods to chemically separate each element of interest as well as isotope ratio measurements using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS). Previous experience with one or both methodologies is an advantage, but not a requirement.
